Hello 👋, thank you for stopping by. My name is Anjana Silva, and I started my remote working journey back in 2011 when I was working for an organisation in Australia, remotely from my hometown of Nugegoda, Sri Lanka. It was well before remote working became the norm after the pandemic in 2020.
Since then, I have worked closely with/mentored remote teams and engaged with clients in India, Canada, the UK, the USA, the Maldives, Germany, and Lebanon. Over the years, I have learnt that challenges faced by teams in a remote setup are vastly different from the challenges faced when working in the office. Even though we work with the same people, on the same projects, aiming for the same deadlines, using the same tools, the challenges we face are hugely different, from office-based to remote.
In 2024, approximately 14% of full-time employees globally work entirely remotely, while 29% operate under a hybrid model, combining remote and in-office work. In the United States, around 22 million employed adults work exclusively from home, representing about 14% of the adult workforce

While remote working is not the only way to work, and undeniably not everyone can do their work remotely. However, those who can perform their duties remotely or love to switch to a profession that allows remote flexibility should thrive to embrace the “new norm.”
